The Morris County Historical Society will hold both its annual membership drive tea and its annual meeting
on Sunday, February 14, at Acorn Hall, 68 Morris Avenue, Morristown. The tea will run from 1 to 4 p.m.,
with the annual meeting taking place at 2 p.m.
The business meeting, which is open to the public, will include elections and a brief presentation on the
Society’s activities and growth during the past year. Up for reelection to the position of President is
David G. Holdsworth of Green Village, and for reelection as Secretary, Barbara M. Benedict of Madison.
All Society members whose membership is current as of January 14 may vote.
During the tea, prospective members
can learn about the Society’s many benefits and
resources while enjoying the Victorian ritual of
afternoon tea. The day’s $6 admission fee ($5 for
seniors, $3 for students) includes a tour of the 19th
century house museum, the exhibit “Life After George:
Morristown After the Revolution,” and a delicious
afternoon tea buffet. The fee is applicable towards an
annual membership in the MCHS. Current MCHS members are
also encouraged to attend and bring a guest at no
charge. No advance reservation is required for the
tea.
A portion of the tea refreshments
is being underwritten by the Cosy Cupboard Tea Room, a
traditional afternoon tea room opening in March at 4 Old
Turnpike Road in Convent Station. The tea is also
co-sponsored by the Metropolitan Ladies Society, whose
members will be on hand to model nineteenth and early
twentieth century fashions. The tri-state-area-based
group is involved in living history demonstrations and a
variety of philanthropic projects.
