Acorn Hall, the Exhibit Galleries at Acorn Hall, and the Gift Shop are open for to to the public three days a week or for group tours by appointment. The guided tour of Acorn Hall lasts approximately 45. Visitors may choose to visit the gift shop or the exhibit only, but are not permitted to tour the house without a guide. To arrange group or school tours call (973) 267-3465. For additional information on available school programs go to Programs.

Tour Hours
Mondays 10AM to 4PM
Thursdays 10AM to 4PM
Sundays 1PM to 4PM

The last tour begins one half hour before closing each day.

Adults $6
Seniors $5
Students $3
Children under twelve and members are free.
Visitors wishing only to view the Exhibit Galleries pay half price admission.

Customs and Courtesies
Acorn Hall is original to the nineteenth century and contains priceless objects that were owned by the Schermmerhorn, Crane and Hone families. In order to preserve the Hall's authenticity, we request that all visitors observe and adhere to the following rules:

  • Please stay with your guide during the tour.

  • Visitors are not to touch the artifacts or to lean on the walls or furnishings there are Please Touch samples of many of the wallpapers in the house that your guide will show to you.

  • Filming and video recording is not permitted inside Acorn Hall.

  • We ask that you turn off cell phones and other electronic devices as a courtesy to your guide and other guests.

  • We do not allow food, candy or any beverages inside the building. You are welcome to enjoy any of these items on the back porch.

  • Smoking is prohibited.

  • We ask that strollers be left on the front porch.

  • To enhance your child's experience, we have objects that they may touch and examine, we ask that you restrain them from touching any objects not specifically offered to them.

Directions

From Route 80
Take Rt. 287 south to Exit 36 (following sign for Washington Headquarters). Keep left on exit ramp and merge left again before light. Turn left at light at Ridgedale Avenue (stay in left-hand lane). Follow Ridgedale Avenue one block to end. Turn left at light onto Morris Ave. Pass Rt. 287 and Washington Headquarters, staying in right-hand lane. At fork stay right on Columbia Road (following the sign for U-Turn) and make the first left. From the right hand turn lane, make a left at the light. The second entrance to the right is Acorn Hall, immediately past the Westin Hotel.

From Route 287 North

From Route 287 South
Take Exit 37 (Route 24 East) to Exit 2A onto Columbia Road. Once on Columbia Road, follow it to the end. Bear right. Make a left at the light, staying in the right hand lane. The second entrance to the right is Acorn Hall, immediately past the Westin Hotel.

From Route 24
Take Exit 1A (Route 511 West, Morristown) onto Whippany Road. Pass the Westin Hotel on right. Acorn Hall is the next entrance to the right.
