Meet some of the New
Jersey farmers and artisans who produce the food on your
table at “Local Harvest,” a celebration of the farms of northern New
Jersey. Meet farmers, watch chef demos, sample and
purchase local food, and learn about north Jersey’s
agricultural heritage past and present. Learn about CSA
(Community Supported Agriculture) and sign up for a
share of the 2010 harvest. Co-sponsored by the Morris
County Park Commission and the
Northern New Jersey chapter of
Slow Food USA.

Be Our Guest

At Acorn Hall
Acorn Hall will be part of
the third annual Be Our Guest event, a free open house
of Morris County's museums, historic sites, and cultural
attractions. Free transportation will be available
between Acorn Hall, the Morris Museum, Washington's
Headquarters, Schuyler-Hamilton House, Macculloch Hall
Historical Museum, Fosterfields Living Historical Farm,
Historic Speedwell, and Craftsman Farms. While there is
no admission fee, visitors are asked to bring a
non-perishable food item as part of a food drive to
benefit the Interfaith Food Pantry. For a list of the

The Society's latest
exhibit will feature wedding gowns, evening gowns,
christening gowns, even nightgowns! Drawing on the
Society's vast costume collection, the exhibit promises
to delight! The exhibit will be open on Mondays,
Thursdays, and Sundays during its run.

Costume and Textile Care Workshop
6-8 p.m.
At the Frelinghuysen Arboretum
This workshop is offered
free of charge exclusively for volunteers at local
historical organizations in Morris County. Tips and
techniques will be offered about caring for costume and
textile collections. Presenters include MCHS curator
Debra Westmoreland and Carrie Fellows, Executive
Director, Macculloch Hall Museum.

At the Frelinghuysen Arboretum
Interested in dressing up as
a Southern Belle for Halloween? Looking to make your own
authentic costume to wear at your historic site? This
workshop is for you. Participants will learn where to
find authentic patterns, appropriate fabrics, and
specialty items to create their own period wardrobe.
Each participant will leave with a packet of information
and fabric samples. $10 for non-members, $5 for MCHS
members. Reservations required.

Victorian Fashion Plate
Workshop
At the Frelinghuysen Arboretum
During the Victorian era, women would take fashion
plates out of magazines and "dress" the figures using
scraps of fabric, lace, ribbon and other trims.
Participants in the workshop will "dress" a reproduction
image in this same manner. A fun workshop for anyone who
has dreamed of being a fashion designer! Ages 12+.
