Tea Time with the Morris County Historical Society

At the Morris Museum
Join MCHS for an enlightening discussion on the impact
"taking tea" has had on British and American culture.
The origins of afternoon tea, tea etiquette, and the
role of tea in expanding women's rights are a few topics
that will be examined. Tea and traditional refreshments
will be served. This is a partnered event with the
Morris Museum and will be held there. Pre-registration
is required. Please call 973-971-3718 at least one week
prior to the scheduled date to register. $15 for members
(MCHS or Morris Museum) and $20 for non-members. The
program is held in conjunction with the Morris Museum's
exhibit Teapots by Design: From the Collection of
Unjeria C. Jackson, M.D.

Local Harvest
12-4 p.m.
At the Morris County Cultural
Center
Meet some of the New
Jersey farmers and artisans who produce the food on your
table at “Local Harvest,” a celebration of the farms of northern New
Jersey. Meet farmers, watch chef demos, sample and
purchase local food, and learn about north Jersey’s
agricultural heritage past and present. Learn about CSA
(Community Supported Agriculture) and sign up for a
share of the 2011 harvest. Co-sponsored by the Morris
County Park Commission and the
Northern New Jersey chapter of
Slow Food USA.

President's Membership Tea
1-4 p.m.
At Acorn Hall
The President's Membership Tea is held each year to
provide the public with the opportunity to learn more
about the Society and membership benefits. It also
gives current members the opportunity to meet one
another and the MCHS staff and trustees. Members are
encouraged to bring a friend who may be interested in
joining the Society. The day’s $6 admission fee ($5 for
seniors, $3 for students) includes a tour of Acorn
Hall; the exhibit “Gowns: From Birth to Bedroom to
Ballroom,” which closes on February 20; and a delicious
afternoon tea buffet served in Acorn Hall’s dining
room. The admission fee is applicable towards an annual
membership in MCHS. Attendees will also get a
first-hand look at the bay window restoration project in
progress in the dining room. The tea is free for MCHS
members. No advance reservation is required for the
tea. The tea is co-sponsored by the Metropolitan
Ladies Society, who will be modeling nineteenth- and
early twentieth-century fashions. The
tri-state-area-based group is involved in living history
demonstrations and a variety of philanthropic projects.

Pequannock Township Library
MCHS director Bonnie-Lynn Nadzeika will present a slide
program highlighting the nineteenth century history of
many of today's popular sports, including golf, tennis,
football and baseball. The program will also highlight
indoor games and children's games. Part of the MCHS
Community Speakers Program.
Free.

tracing the history of the suffrage movement in the
United States and highlighting the efforts of local

MCHS director
Bonnie-Lynn Nadzeika will present a slide program on the
history of Victorian sports and games. Many modern sports such as
tennis, baseball, and croquet had their roots in the
Victorian era. Hear about the local sport and game clubs
founded in the 19th century, including the Morris County
Golf Club, the Morristown Field Club, and the Lake
Hopatcong Yacht Club. Part
of the MCHS Community Speakers Program.

Be Our Guest
12 - 5 p.m.
At Acorn Hall
Acorn Hall will be part of
the third annual Be Our Guest event, a free open house
of Morris County's museums, historic sites, and cultural
attractions. Free transportation will be available
between Acorn Hall, the Morris Museum, Washington's
Headquarters, Schuyler-Hamilton House, Macculloch Hall
Historical Museum, Fosterfields Living Historical Farm,
Historic Speedwell, and Craftsman Farms. Donations
accepted for Interfaith Food Pantry and the Front Line
Fund.

Fourth Annual Yard Sale

At Acorn Hall
The Third Annual Yard Sale
will be held on the front lawn of Acorn Hall. Vintage
clothing, books, and other items will be featured, as
well as gently used modern items. NO EARLY BIRDS!
